The Hive Chicago Fund for Connected Learning (the Fund) incorporated LRNG into its work in the summer of 2016 to support youth in developing skills to prepare for employment and explore their passions. We call this initiative LRNG: CHI.

LRNG is a national platform used by 12 cities across the US. Each city has a lead organization responsible for developing a localized strategy for how to use LRNG, including implementation, operations, and partnerships. In Chicago, the Fund serves in this capacity. With input from the City of Chicago and other partners, LRNG: CHI supports career readiness, workforce development and the development of 21st Century skills in Chicago.

During the pilot’s first year, the Fund worked with a targeted group of partners to design learning experiences and meaningful opportunities for youth who use LRNG: CHI. Partners included:

  • One Summer Chicago: Playlists and Badges related to financial responsibility, work-readiness, goal setting, and other 21st Century skills; badges unlocked related One Summer Chicago opportunities
  • Career and Technical Education Department at Chicago Public Schools: Playlist to assist with Job Shadow Day Preparation so that youth arrived on time, dressed appropriately, prepared to engage with the employer, while making a great impression
